After last week's French slip that Prince of Persia will be making an appearance on the Wii, the company has now confirmed -- in English -- that the game is in fact coming to the console.
A spokesperson for Ubisoft told IGN that PoP will be a Wii title: "I can confirm that a game based on the popular Prince of Persia franchise is one of many titles Ubisoft has in development for Nintendo's Wii. At this time we can not provide an official date for the game or any additional information about it."
There, glad that that's settled. Let the Wiimote use speculation commence.

:p
Anyway, is this going to be an original game, or will it be on the other consoles as well? Or is it taking a Resident Evil-style approach, and releasing a different game on the Wii than on the others?

While on the subject of Wii launch titles, is it possible that you could provide to us a list of all confirmed launch titles for the Wii up to this point? I'm compiling in my mind what titles I plan on picking up to play on the system when it comes out, and a list of what will definately be available would help so much.
Thanks.

I lose respect on Wii developers being 1/4 hearted on projects. Too bad for a console being in a class on its own, eh?

The Wii will have better graphics than the original Xbox. 720x480p is plenty for me even though my TV supports 1080i...not that I could tell the difference between 1080i and 720p other than a ever so slight flicker in 1080i.
Personally, I think if the Wii can play DVD's with an attachment, then it should be able to do 540p. That will scale nicely to 1080. So maybe over time, Wii games will look better as Nintendo released a devkit that enables 540p to developers in 2 years. This is like what they did on the N64 once they couldn't dent PS1 sales...they allowed N64 games to go 640x480. Madden was the first to do it as the N64 version looked way better than the PS1 version. South Park was another, I believe.

Seriously, 480p or 540p is excellent rez to play.

Far Cry and Prince of Persia are going to be new games for the Wii. Sure the Wii will see lots of ports, but if you haven't played them, they are still new to you. Example... LoZ:TP will be the hottest game at Wii launch, yet it's a port from the GC.
Compare that to the large chunk of XBOX360 games out there that feature not much beyond their current-gen versions except updated graphics.
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
Gun
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
Fight Night: Round 3
Far Cry: Instincts — Predator
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend
NCAA Football 07
Madden NFL 07
Hitman: Blood Money
Call of Duty 2
etc
I hope developers start to change ports to be optimized for Wii control, but you can't say ports aren't a reality elsewhere. And plenty of franchises will be ported over with new games on the Wii, just like FC and PoP. And I'm happy with that, more games = better.

From a quick browse through google links, it seems as though the widescreen option will be left up to developers (who obviously have to make the game optimized for widescreen for it to look right), but all the games shown so far were presented in widescreen. It seems like most, if not all, the launch titles will be playable in either 4:3 or 16:9... LoZ:TP, Red Steel, MP3, Wii Sports, etc.
Hopefully Nintendo is mandating widescreen like they are with screenshots, which must be accompained by a picture that shows how the remote is being used.
Anybody have a definitive quote from Nintendo about Wii use of widescreen?
