As expected, Sony will soon roll out its 8GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, priced at $300. That's steep, but given previous trends, the price should plummet quickly. Last summer, the 4GB Memory Stick debuted at $250, but could be found for as low as $65 (SanDisk model) during a recent (but expired) Google Checkout promotion on Buy.com.PSP firmware v2.81 or higher is needed to use the 8GB Memory Stick with Sony's portable gaming device.

I can buy the whole damn PSP for that price. Damn Sony and their damn propriety formats.
That being said I have alot of bad things to say about Nintendo and Microsoft.

Remember that's where MemoryStick originated and advances first, not for a secondary niche handheld gaming device :P
Oh and the newest largest cards always come out at insane prices, then the price drops like a rock all of a sudden.

>>the price. When you buy a $8,000 camera that records
>>to these cards, $300 isn't bad.
LOL... sony have an $8,000 camera? let alone one worth buying? Even after absorbing Konica/Minolta, that'll be the day.
The $900 Alpha is about as good as they'll come from Sony for quite some time.

That would be because SanDisk is the OEM for memory sticks. The Sony branded sticks are made at a SanDisk factory.
Sony still has the gall to think they can charge higher prices based on their name alone. I guess they think consumers are still living in the 1980's. I think most of us figured out that you have about a 50/50 chance of getting something quality from Sony. (PS1's only working upside down, PS2's failing to play DVDs, not sure what the failure rate on PS3's is but that's quite a gamble for $600!)

How long will customers put up with being reamed by this type of proprietary BS.
