Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for PC, it works

IGN gives a thumbs-up to the forthcoming Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows, enabling 360-compatible wireless devices for PC use. The dongle offers simultaneous synceration for up to four wireless controllers and four (wireless) headsets. The Wireless Racing Wheel is also supported, along with all future wireless Microsoft offerings.

Despite what the image might imply, the receiver is wired, connecting via USB. Retail units will ship later this month for $20 -- no surprise there.

Very cool that this will allow for all 360 wireless controllers, headset & racing wheel to work with Windows.

Thats really sweet, Makes the 150 price tag for the Racing wheel not so bad if you can use it on PC and Xbox 360 games.

For emulators for example. I have a Sega Saturn USB pad and a Playstation USB adapter hooked to my Mac.

I could think of a few reasons for using the wireless controller on the Mac. Most of all for Prey, also Call of Duty!

Not that I mind, but this is why people think you're biased! 11 wii annoyances, and then you devote an entire post to say that something thats supposed to so something does the very thing that was supposed to be done.

adrian I use my wired 360 headset for Skype plugged through my wired 360 controller, so hopefully the wireless route will work just as well, at least I'm planning on using it for Skype myself and hoping not to be dissapointed.

Sounds cheap enough to be tempting, I have two wireless 360 controllers (for the 360 - duh) and it would be great to use them for the PC games that work better with a pad as i've NEVER found a PC gaming pad that feels that good or solid, and the 360 controller is about the best there is now!

Looks like I will be picking one up at some stage.

So what happens if you have your Xbox near your computer and you turn on your controller? So when you want to use your controller for computer, will your 360 also turn on?

Great news. I'm also dying to use the 360 headset for skype on my PC. I'm living in SHanghai and use Skype all the time. I haven't been able to find a cheap wireless headset that reaches from my computer room to the kitchen - any idea on the range to expect or a way to boost bluetooth signals? Or am I being an idiot and missing some really obvious solution? I can't believe Skype hasn't made a cheap wireless g headset for use in the home. I know the battery life would be awful but its just for the home - maybe 2 hours talk time? Anyways thanks for any info:

The xbox 360 controller can only be tethered to one machine at a time. The button on the top allows the receiver to scan for new controllers. There is a corresponding button on the controller. When the two buttons are pressed on each device, the xbox 360 or pc receiver will scan for new devices and attach it to that machine.

It's out now, I just ordered my reciever from Buy.com. Can't wait to try it out on the PC with my wireless gamepad in Flat Out 2. I wonder if the standard 360 headsets that plug into the pads will work wirelessly as well. Now that would rock.
