Sony's Afrika soundtrack is safari-sational

Ludwig's on vacation, but we're sure he'll check the site sooner or later and see that we have news to report on his most wanted game ever. Sony's lovely, yet elusive safari sim, Afrika, has surfaced again (albeit briefly) in a new behind-the-scenes clip of its soundtrack being recorded in Hollywood.

Afrika's score is the work of Wataru Hokoyama, who is new to games but not other media. In addition to film scores, Hokoyama has brought his talent to TV, including orchestrations for "Once More, With Feeling," the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He also conducts his own works, as you can see in the above video. Now that we've seen and heard the game, here's hoping (if only for Ludwig's sake) that we finally get to play it next week at E3.

As long as it has "Africa" by Toto on there, playing repeatedly (as soon as you insert the disc) it will sell 100 million copies.

I think they should add mamma Africa by Peter Tosh to the list of in game tracks. I hope we get this game in the United States because it looks absolutely beautiful. Not to mention my fiance is a professional photographer and I like to consider myself an amateur photographer needless to say we would love to play this game.

I don't like. I hope this classical style isn't the majority of the game. I think they should stick with a soundtrack that makes you feel as if you're in Africa and not on some sort of Indiana Jones adventure.

I was at the session for this, and the whole score is incredible. There are also several much more "African" sounding tracks with loads of hand percussion, etc. This guy definitely knows how to write -- and holy hell, he makes an orchestra sound sweet.

That is one awesome piece of music and I can't wait for the game. And, hopefully they will issue a soundtrack CD with a score that good. This rivals many film scores I have heard in the last ten years.Nothing like finally having a full orchestra for a game, forgive me for saying so (I am sure many will disagree) but we've had 90% of our games with hip hop, rap and rock dominating, this is a real pleasure for a change! Makes me want the game even more.

this sounds exactly like a mix of star wars, indiana jones, and superman. seems to me that this song belongs in something along the same lines of the three movies mentioned, and not a game based around taking pictures of animals in heat.
