Debut Golden Axe: Beast Rider trailer shows protagonist riding beasts

We were heartbroken to learn that the upcoming re-imagining of the once beloved arcade franchise, Golden Axe: Beast Rider, would not feature any co-op gameplay. Our faith in the title was admittedly shaken -- though this debut trailer has officially piqued our interest. After all, who needs friends when you have gigantic, mountable dinosaurs? Though we would have preferred to see some footage of some unassumping, puntable power-up gnomes, the combat in the above video certainly looks enticing -- though the gameplay featured in this preview might be lost on you if your monitor is unable to display the 400 shades of brown apparently used to create the game's visual aesthetic. May we suggest adjusting the title to the slightly more appropriate Burnt Sienna Axe?

I think the idea was to make a game like Ninja Gaiden or Heavenly Sword.Think of this as an spin off of Golden Axe.

Maybe if this turn outs to be good there is hope for a version with co-op mode but if you want to be sure you can always start a petition.Sometimes petitions work yet petitions won't stop Uwe Boll from making movies.

I think that the reason they gave is that they want to make sure the gameplay is solid and fun before they commit to co-op play *coughsequelcough*

Golden Axe is not supposed to have blood and dismemberment and all that. At least keep it so when you defeat people they petrify into the ground .. that was always a cool feature.

Is Death Adder in this game?

That could easily work into a plausible storyline. The main character has the Medusa Sword, which turns enemies into stone. They could use that Endorphin engine and have enemies turn into stone in a variety of cool ways.

Maybe I should make that game.

Not impressed. The game should have had a bright, cartoonish, arcadey look, and gameplay to match.

People have been lamenting the death of offline multiplayer on the HD consoles in things like Motorstorm, but when you cut it from freaking Golden Axe the situation has officially become absurd.

Oh, and the animation looks pretty shitty.

im with you, the best thing about the original was the co-op and without it just not quite as fun looking, then again i feel that way about a lot of games.

Also do you get to beat up little dwarfs for potions outside of a campfire in between levels? is so no go for me.

I think the gaming market has expanded too fast and too big for its own good... People don't want to buy random titles anymore. It's all about big name/tried and true games nowadays. Too many companies making too many games..It's kinda worrying...

This still looks absolutely nothing like Golden Axe. I guess the main character uses magic, I think that's about the only part that gives any kind of hint that it's supposed to be related to the Golden Axe games. If the game had a different name I would never have even made the connection.
The game could end up decent of course (though that trailer hardly makes me excited), but from everything they've shown, this game looks to be a complete and utter failure as a Golden Axe game.

No, you know what? I'm God damn sick and tired of every game looking exactly like every other game out there. Why are all battle-ready women in bikinis with light scatterings of armor? Can designers no longer come up with anything original? Do you base all your character designs off the exact same sexy-woman design someone created ages ago? Is it completely unacceptable for a heroine's stomach and lower back to have CLOTHING?

I mean, I like the ladies and all, but show me some ORIGINALITY for God's sake. This game looks like everything I've seen 80 times over again.

Seconded. They really need to start hiring people who know a little about fashion design to clothe the female protagonists, because at the moment most female characters are derived from the 'sexual fantasy icon' end of things.

Or in other words, most female game characters look like their clothing was inspired by those cheap plastic outfits used by strippers and girls on a hen party.

But then again, i think its relevant in some games, especially with something like golden axe, which has always been the kind of rippling flesh with not much covering it style of fantasy. If anything the protagonist in this should be wearing even LESS. The girl in the original golden axe didnt exactly have modesty.

If it was a male character we would be seeing his bare chest. Since a topless female character would raise all kinds of hell, they have to use a bikini.

But I agree with you though. They really should set in an Icy setting with her wearing a parka and riding a giant walrus while wielding a lance. That would be kickass.

As a fan of the original Golden Axe and action games I have to say this looks... terrible, completely awful terrible. It looks like bland mediocre crap and the developer's mothers should love them a little less for having created it.

I think this game looks like it could be a lot of fun. You have to consider that it is a departure from the original. Say for instance that the game was called.. o I don't know... Heavenly Sword. Everyone would be all psyched up about playing some hot chick who parades around half naked cleaving through hordes of baddies as her perky breast glisten in the sun, but since the game is called Golden Axe, everyone is up in arms about not being able to play as some vertically challenged psychopath or a metro-sexual barbarian. I will give this game a chance for sure.
